What Can I Rely On?

I believe that we are all made with an innate need for security and freedom. I have been thinking about how easy it is to put too much trust in something to enable me to feel confident that all will be well — things like loving relationships, success in work/ministry, financial investments, or even healthy eating. None of these things are harmful — in fact they are all good things. However, they are not completely reliable, nor are they my source of serenity and wholeness.

My most peaceful and happiest moments are in the times that I sit at the Lord’s feet, handing Him all my cares about the future, getting to know Him, remembering that I am His, listening closely for the next step He wants me to take, trusting Him to work all things for good — even my mistakes. My most reliable source of security and freedom is resting in His unconditional love.

“For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:
‘In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.’” Isaiah 30:15

“I am my beloved’s,
And my beloved is mine…” Song of Solomon 6:3
